Who we Are

We are a coaltion of Citizens and Organizations (who also happen to be taxpayers) who believe that it is time for Citizens, Governments, Industry and other groups to come clean about energy and transportation costs, and to transfer these costs from the taxpayer onto the consumer.

Politically, we recognize that this is currently an uphill battle as canadians have become too dependent on low, subsidized fuel costs and transportation which is why public education on the real costs will be a large part of our campaign. Far too many organizations call for a reduction in gas taxes, but fail to educate people on how other taxes are already subsidizing gas prices, and certain modes of transportation.

Full cost accounting needs to be done to determine these costs. The costs of fuel should include everything -- beginning with the research and extraction of fuels, all the way up to the environmental, health, and social costs of that fuel. The total cost for a mode of transportation should also include costs such as policing, infrastructure construction and maintenance, and other associated costs.

We know that it is hard to shift from older, inefficient products to new ones, which is why we will work to promote alternatives. Governments may enact short-term incentives to help people switch, as long as the longer-term goals are not to subsidize an industry but to instead lower the long-term tax burden.

Our Mission Statement Our Mission has 3 main components:

  1. To educate the public as to the full costs of our energy and transportation choices.

  2. To ensure that the users of a given form of energy or mode of transportation pay the full costs of their choices through a tax shift of all of these costs off of general taxpayer from taxes such such as Income or Property taxes and onto the users in the form of Licensing fees, fuel taxes and/or user fees.

  3. To promote alternative energy and transportation choices which are more efficient and less costly in terms of short-term and long term costs to the taxpayer as well as the user.
