Achieving Second Reading for the
Canada Well-Being Measurement Act
Second reading for a private member's bill can be achieved through
unanimous consent in the House of Commons.
At the time Parliament dissolved for the last election, Bill C-268 (Then
called Bill C-469) had received approval from the Progressive Conservative
Party, The New Democratic Party and the Liberal Party. This left only the
Bloc Québécois and the Canadian Alliance Parties.
We have spent a fair amount of time encouraging people in ridings held
by these parties to contact their MPs and encourage them to look at the
Act and let them know what they think. The same procedure is opportune this
time around.
We have to inquire again of the Parties that expressed support before
and continue to encourage the Bloc & the Alliance to join the effort.
There are reasons for each of these remaining parties to support the
Act. You can use the information in the following documents to make the
case that their parties should support Bill C-268 at Second reading.
Information about your riding, who your MP is and how to reach him or
her is available from: 1-800-667-3355.
