Selections from the Album of Ray Stone
A Past president of The National Press Club of Canada

Mike Duffy, Knowlton Nash, Ray Stone, at one of our "20th Century" bow-tie-dinners. Our speaker wasn't sleeping, just exhausted. Historic evening with the then President Ray Stone, executives Ottawa Citizen publisher Jim Orban, Hill Times columnist Rosaleen Dickson, and Guest Speaker, a big supporter of the Press Club, Dave Smith of the Place Next Door, whose Youth Treatment Center is also a renowned Ottawa institution.

Opening at the NAC. then produced at the Press Club, "100 years of Daring - Day One," a two act play by Rosaleen Dickson, for 16 women and one man, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Women's Press Club, now the Media Club. In the daunting single male role was Ray Stone. Most of the ladies were journalists, one a renowned singer, and two were Ministers in the Trudeau Government. Top left, is Dr Elizabeth Dickson, director. Can you name the rest? Send the names to Rosaleen@bell.net. We have a prize for the most correct list. Ian Macdonald and Jack Webster performed at the Press Club Ball circa 1982. Ray Stone was stage manager and set designer for our annual Press Club Balls for years, and took many photos, including one of Doug Small, former Ottawa Bureau Chief for the Global Television Network and a life member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, streaking in front of Brian and Mila Mulroney, which he refuses to let me use in this series, but, actually, Macdonald & Webster were more entertaining; a real boost for our Club! Thanks, Ray, for catching them.

President Ray Stone presents one of his famous Peace Tower Clocks to Governor General Romeo Leblanc. Press Club Pres. Ray Stone greets the then Prime Minister. Brian Mulroney, who signed his name under the photo.
