BANQUET INFORMATION AND POLICIES
Even for the experienced organizer, planning and arranging an event can be hard work. Call on the skills and experience of our staff to discuss with you the many aspects of your function. Be it entertainment, flowers, a suitable menu or bar arrangements, we will be delighted to advise you of your options.
At the National Press Club, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer you a flexible menu at competitive prices. Whatever your choice may be, we guarantee quality, freshness and professional service.
Our facilities are available seven days a week, year-round, in the heart of the beautiful nation's capital.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
We have tailored our catering menu to suit a wide variety of tastes. Our large selection of tantalizing breakfasts, snacks, hors d'oeuvres, canapÈs, buffets and dinners is guaranteed to meet your needs. Special dietary substitutions are available and must be arranged for in advance of the function.
All food and beverage requirements served on our premises are supplied exclusively by the National Press Club, with the exception of wedding cakes.
Should the minimum consumption at a cash or host bar be less than $300.00 before taxes, a minimum of a four-hour bartender labour charge will apply.
GUARANTEED ATTENDANCE
Notice of guaranteed number of guests is required 72 hours prior your function. You will be invoiced for the
guaranteed number of guests, with a 5% leeway if your number of guests is less than guaranteed.
TAXES, GRATUITIES AND PRICES
All food prices are currently subject to 8% PST, while beverages prices are subject to 10% PST and 7% GST. A 15%
administration charge is applicable.
Prices are subject to change without notice, but will be guaranteed up to three months prior to the function.
LIQUOR LAWS
Only the National Press Club is licensed to sell liquor, wine and other alcoholic beverages on its premises. Our Club
discontinues bar service at 1:00 a.m. Entertainment should cease at that time, in order to vacate the premises within 30
minutes.
CANCELLATIONS
Written notification of cancellation must be received one month prior to the function date. If the function is cancelled
within two weeks before the scheduled date, the full rental fee will be charged. If the function is cancelled two to four
weeks prior, half the rental fee will apply. An exception applies to wedding reception bookings: all cancellations six
months or less prior to the set date will be subject to a $300.00 cancellation fee.

SPEAKER'S CORNER
When journalists and politicians make up your target market, there is no better place to hold a function than at the National Press Club. Being situated in the National Press Building does have its advantages, especially when holding such events as book launches, press conferences, debates and newsmakers.
The NPC will advertise your media-related event at no charge when you use NPC facilities. We can also distribute your function announcement directly to journalists, elected leaders and some of the more prominent media organizations. If you require wider coverage, we use Canada Newswire Ltd. We can also try to secure television coverage for your event from an organization such as the Cable Parliamentary Channel (CPAC), when requested.
NEWSMAKERS
Newsmakers are held when high-profile individuals speak on issues of interest to your group. These functions are highly successful when accompanied by either breakfast, lunch or snacks
(e.g., the NPC breakfast, the Sandwich Board and the P.M. Snack). See our catering package for details.
Newsmakers are held in either our libraries or dining room (room selection depends on anticipated number of guests and availability).
BOOK LAUNCHES
The National Press Club offers you the perfect venue to give new books the profile they deserve.
If Canada's journalists and political elite should be interested in your book, you should be interested in this opportunity.
Book launches and cocktails go hand in hand. Our catering package provides you with many choices, including assorted sandwiches, hot hors d'oeuvres and cold canapÈs. A bar can also be provided on request at no extra charge.
We can also help advertise your book launch through our reciprocal agreement with The Hill Times.
Our lounge and libraries are ideal locations for book launches.
PRESS CONFERENCES AND DEBATES
We offer a wide range of technical assistance, from a simple P/A system, podium and multifeed to full translation services.
An early morning press conference featuring a continental breakfast is most appealing to busy journalists. Catch them before their day begins.
Debates involving two or more speakers are best conducted as an evening affair, beginning with a light buffet.
