The Hunt 2004

Well I guess I missed all the excitement this year! Mark saw a few does during bow season but nothing close. Then when rifle season started, on a beautiful warm (50-60 deg.) opening morning at 8:30 Mark was in the garden tower and saw a buck come out of the "hole in the wall" in the field. He got set and took his time, then tracked it as it came towards him. At 80 yards it was about to go behind a bunch of trees, and Mark was not sure if it would come out the other side so he lined up on the front quarters and squeezed the trigger. He hear a bunch of noise behind the trees, and the deer popped out the other side and went another 10 or 20 yards and laid down. He then thought he should put another shot in him to put him out, and lined up on his neck and shot and then the deer stopped moving. Turns out he missed that final shot but the first went right through both lungs! Nice shoot'n bro! He thought it was an 8 point buck but it was a 7, with one of the tines broken off. Mark left for Nashville on Wednesday taking with him some tenderloins and leaving the rest for Dad.

Dad continued hunting an on Friday morning saw a Buck, with little time to think he lined up and squeezed the trigger. He said "Everything went black and all I saw was stars." Blood was gushing out his nose as the gun recoiled the scope caught dad in the nose and eye and threw back his head. Turns out he was way too close to the scope and it hit him square in the face. After his head cleared a few seconds later he spotted the dear backtracking and stopped short of the fence. Wiping the blood out of his eyes, he lined up again to take another shot but there was no shell in the chamber. He then reloaded which got the deer's attention, but before the deer could react dad made another shot and then passed out from the pain in his head.

The deer dropped right there, and after a while dad got his wits together and got the deer home. Turns out both of dad's eyes were black, and his nose is busted up a bit. The deer was a 5 point buck.

Dad your 300 Wetherbe has a bit more kickback than your bow! (smile)
I will post pictures once I get some from Mark and Dad. I hope I can go next year, but we will see... Till next year...Happy hunting, and remember make sure you are far enough away from your scope when you fire it!!
