The International Association for Near-Death Studies Marion Tapp - All life is precious
The Light at the end of the tunnel beckoned to me. As I moved toward the Light, it came closer to me and I became one with the Light. It was pulsating ... all giving, all powerful, all knowing ... the unconditional love of God. All pain, all cares left me and I was immersed in a profound sense of bliss.

That is how Marion Tapp of Ottawa describes her near-death experience over 12 years ago.

On October 6, 1985, Marion was at home when she began experiencing severe chest pain. Thinking that she was suffering from indigestion, she paced the floor hoping to relieve her discomfort. The pain was not indigestion; she was having a heart attack. She soon fell on the floor unconscious.

Marion next found herself floating near the ceiling by the window looking down at her body on the floor. Surprisingly, she was not concerned about her body, but felt free and at peace. Then, everything went dark and started spinning. The spinning created a tunnel and at the end of that tunnel was the Light.

While she was in the Light, Marion experienced knowledge about the past, present and future. What a difference it would make, she thought, if people on earth knew these truths. "I realized how precious life is ... all life is precious. Everything that is living is God-given."

Marion was drawn back to earth when she thought of her mother who was ill and needed her. Immediately, when she thought of going back, Marion's spirit was returned to her body.

Upon returning, Marion decided that she would spend the rest of her life on earth doing God's will by serving others. Marion found that she could no longer remember the wonderful knowledge that the Light had conveyed to her. Since her near-death experience, however, Marion is never surprised by what happens to her. She feels as if she has been prepared beforehand.

Initially, Marion was reluctant to discuss her experience with anyone. For a time after she returned to her body, she was able to discern people's thoughts and she had foreknowledge of future events. Fearful that she was going crazy, she was sure that other people would not understand her. Eventually, Marion attended a talk on near-death experiences given by (Pat) Elizabeth Fenske of the International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDS). Ms. Fenske assured Marion that she was not alone, that many other people have had similar experiences. After attending an IANDS conference in Hartsford, Connecticut in 1991, Marion founded an Ottawa chapter of IANDS.
