comnet-www: FLORA.ca - e-Week: Novell to Buy SuSE Linux for 210 Million USD / Redhat goes away?

I'm soliciting discussions about the changes happening with some Linux
distributions. I have thus far been using RedHat for both my home desktop
machines and for my commercial servers at CooperIX. Is it time to
evaluate this choice?

e-Week: Novell to Buy SuSE Linux for 210 Million USD / Redhat goes
   away?
Contributed by Russell McOrmond on Tuesday November 04, 2003 @ 12:05PM
   from the what-are-they-up-to? dept.
This e-Week story by Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols includes:

From the company that turned away early Linux pioneers Bryan Sparks
and Ransom Love, Novell Inc. is completing its reinvention by
buying SuSE Linux for 210 million.

     ...
Novell's move follows on the heels of its acquisition of
open-source developer Ximian Inc. in August. These two acquisitions
will make Novell, according to Novell representatives, the first
     billion dollar Linux software company.

See also Red Hat Cans Linux Distribution. This change within RedHat
puts their Fedora Project (See whichproduct chart) on par in many ways
   with the Debian project.

Is it time for FLORA.ca to switch distributions to Debian that has
traditionally more closely matched our values? Has RedHat actually
opened the process to the level that they create an incentive for
advocates of peer production methodologies to stay?

If you have thoughts please send me feedback or preferably post
publicly to the comnet-www mailing list.
