I posted a message to BugTraq on Friday about a GPL'd program I had written. I received a response from someone who didn't appear to like the GPL. When asked why, he responded thus: ------- Forwarded Message Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 17:34:30 -0600 To: Alan DeKok <aland@striker.ottawa.on.ca> From: Brett Glass <brett@XXX.org> Subject: Re: ANNOUNCE: PScan, a simple security scanner. Because the GPL is the implementation of a spiteful agenda whose express purpose is to destroy markets and busineses and threaten programmers' livelihoods. We avoid GPLed software, and encourage others to do so, both for ethical reasons and because we wish to prevent it from harming ourselves, other developers, and consumers. Simply put, the use of the GPL is unethical and wrong. - --Brett Glass ------- End of Forwarded Message (I've changed his email address to maintain his privacy.) This message is just to let you know what other people think. I think this view is a little extreme, myself, but it is a nice frothing-at-the-mouth anti-GPL quote. :) Alan DeKok.
