Copies to:

Gordon Wilson - MP in charge of Corporate Welfare in BC
Ujjal Dosanjh - leader of the BC NDP
Bill Blaikie - Federal NDP MP who may want to know what their namesake
party in BC is up to.

Ms. Sindi Hawkins - Employment and Investment Critic (BC Liberals)
Judith Reid - Community Development, Co-operatives and Volunteers
                (Maybe someone who understands CED)

BC Green Party, who seem to be ahead of the BC NDP in the polls so a
possibility to reverse the Corporate Welfare attitude in BC.

Mauril Bélanger, (My MP in Ottawa)

I am writing in regards to the following news article:
  Canada woos Microsoft
http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/business/newsid_774000/774063.stm

It is bad enough that my tax money is being wasted by all levels of
government in handouts to this company (that is what paying their
licensing fees amount to, given the lower costs that would be available to
the government by supporting other software development models and
companies), but this is over the top!

The US government jails citizens for committing lesser crimes than
Microsoft has been convicted of (over 50% for non-violent crimes related
to the so-called "Drug War") and yet we collectively as North Americans
continue to be treating this organization as if they were heros. It is
not only their competitors who want Microsoft and other similar market
monopolists to be controlled, but anyone who opposes monopoly economics
and supports basic Free Market principles - understanding the need for
even stronger and better enforced anti-trust laws!

Canada already has companies offering replacement products to the entire
line of Microsoft products. Rather than trying to 'woo' this questionable
organization into Canada, it would be much more appropriate to support the
existing companies and small businesses already in Canada. British
Colombia already has an Operating System Vendor <http://www.stormix.com/>
, with other projects/companies offering Canadian-based Operating Systems
such as <http://www.openbsd.org/>. We even have a larger company in
Ottawa which sells both an Operating System and a well-known Office Suite
<http://www.corel.ca/>.

Not only should Canada and the provinces not be willing to accept this
organization in Canada, but we should have our own anti-trust cases
against Microsoft underway to restore Free Markets in Canada and its
provinces.
