Information about the flora.* newsgroups.
The FLORA.* hierarchy is a publicly distributed series of newsgroups
maintained to help serve the National Capital community. These
newsgroups fall into two categories:
- Newsgroups of interest specifically to the users and volunteers at
FLORA Community WEB. Groups such as the FLORA Helpdesk and the general
discussion area would fall into this category.
- Newsgroups temporarily using FLORA as their home which will
eventually become Ottawa wide discussion groups. Groups such as the
comnet-www would fall into this category. As soon as possible, these
groups will become ott.* newsgroups
If you live in the National Capital Region, or serve users within this region
and wish to carry these groups, please contact: news@flora.org
Moderated lists should be configured to send messages
back to 'flora-group@flora.org'.
In the 'moderators' file this is accomplished with:
flora.*:%s@flora.org
If you wish to simplify news administration for flora.* newsgroups, I
always send out any newgroup and rmgroup messages from
'news@flora.ottawa.on.ca'. Your control.ctl file could have the
following added to it:
newgroup:news@flora.ottawa.on.ca:flora.*:doit=mail
rmgroup:news@flora.ottawa.on.ca:flora.*:doit=mail

FLORA.org was previously part of a project to help speed up the
propagation of regional newsgroups. As the web of news interconnections
increased, this was no longer needed. FLORA Community WEB
