One of the few things we ask in return for hosting your website on FLORA
is that you ensure that your site is accessible. Ensuring freedom of
choice in things like Operating Systems and Browsers is part of the FLORA
mission, as well as trying to keep the Web as accessible to people with
low-income (IE: Smaller computers), the visually impaired (Who "listen to"
pages with browsers such as Lynx),
and so on. If you need help in making your site accessable, please ask for help.
Viewable With Any
Browser - this site contains a very good style guide which is very
recommended for all web designers (FLORA or otherwise) to adopt for their
site design.
A number of advanced features are available to web managers, including
includes, PHP and databases. If you need these features please contact Russell McOrmond to have them enabled
for your area. The FLORA Server project
pages have more details about the Web server. Questions and answers can
be read as part of flora.admin.help from
the Helpdesk.
A local consulting company hosted on the FLORA servers has a resources page with
some example scripts.
PHP Tutorials
including a Perl to PHP Migration for those who are familiar with PERL
CGI's and want to move these to work on FLORA (Flora does not allow
regular users to install CGI software due to security issues).
PHPBuilder which includes a
database of sample routines.
PHPWizard which includes more
tutorials, examples and some more advanced applications (Database
administration). FLORA already has phpMyAdmin installed.
Server-side
Includes allow one to include various information/variables
automatically in their pages (Functionality also offered by PHP, but some
scripts may already be written for server-side includes).
Databases: Both the MySQL and
PostgreSQL servers are installed.
