FLORA Community WEB needs YOU
FLORA relies very heavily on volunteers to make its services possible.
If you have time to volunteer for a service, please get in touch with us
by posting a message to the Helpdesk
Discussion group.
A wide variety of volunteers are needed. If you have most of the skills
required, but are not familiar with the technology, please contact us
as we can provide training for our volunteers.
- Discussion Group Managers
- While most discussion groups on FLORA are not moderated, they do
require dedicated individuals to coordinate the discussion group.
This person or group of people try to keep the discussion group
on topic and interesting. If a group is
Email based (Mailinglists) then this
person will need to filter out bad subscriptions to the list.
- Graphic Artists
- FLORA makes use of a number of mediums, such as WWW, where graphics can
be used to aid in navigation and in presentation of information.
The better the visual appearance of information, the more people will
view it and benefit from the information contained within it.
- Writers
- A fair bit of information, both technical and non-technical exists on
the server. Often a good writer is needed to try to take the raw
information that is made available from a community organization and
present this information in a form easily read and understood in the
electronic medium. FLORA itself has information that it wishes to publish,
including documentation on how to make use of the services of FLORA.
- Trainers
- Certain electronic publishing and communications skills are required
both by other volunteers, and by the users of the FLORA services.
Individuals with the ability to convey these skills to others will be
greatly appreciated in documentation writing, in one-on-one training
sessions as well as in a classroom.
- Volunteer Coordination
- Someone will be needed that knows how to understand the unique skills of
a given volunteer and present them with appropriate volunteer options to
best make use of those skills, while keeping the volunteer interested in
that project.
- Events Coordination
- All work and no play makes for unhappy people *smile*. We will need
people willing to organize events where we can all get out and see each
other.
- Fund-raising
- While the hardware for FLORA is independently owned, these services
cannot be completely supported by the owner. Sponsors and other support
will be needed, and we will need people who are familiar with trying to
obtain this support.
- Software Evaluators
- We are working with a wide variety of different computer systems being
used for authoring and viewing of information, as well as participating in
discussion groups. In order to try to make sense of all of the different
tools available, software evaluators will be needed to give their opinions
and recommendations for various tools on various computing platforms.
- UNIX Software Configuration/Authoring/Testing
- People interested in the more technical aspects of FLORA are invited to
get involved with the FLORA Community WEB server project.
