The FAQ is the best place to start. If it is missing something, then
this forum is where to ask.

The hard-resources (the stuff that would need money) of FLORA.org is
entirely sponsored by my company FLORA.ca .

The soft-resources (people time) are offered by individual people who
are going to be willing to volunteer their time.

There are ways in which FLORA.org and NCF.ca have similarities, but
there are many ways they are different. NCF.ca is sponsored by its
members as well as corporate/union/government and other sponsors (some of
the sponsors having questionable values), but is open for all citizens to
join and participate in. FLORA.org is sponsored by myself who has my own
values. Who is offered resources is fairly subjective: I have to believe
in what the group is going at some level.

To see a list of current groups go to http://calcutta.flora.ca/

FLORA.org provides communications tools for a select group of
people/organizations to then communicate with the world. NCF.ca provides
communications tools for a broader range of people, and accepts donations
from a broader range of organizations.

If you want to support more independent media stuff like FLORA.org to be
kept going I recommend the following:

  a) You volunteer time either for FLORA.org, or for related volunteer
organizations such as PERC.ca (Join the BBS to learn more:
http://www.perc.ca/phpBB2/ ), the GOSLING Community
<http://www.goslingcommunity.org>, the Open Source Weekend
<http://www.osw.ca/> and/or the OPIRG Ottawa technology group that is just
forming.

Hopefully Julien can post information in this forum about the OPIRG
Ottawa tech group so that interested people can join.

  b) You direct people wanting commercial services to the sponsors.
While I am personally the sponsor, any work directed at
http://www.OpenConcept.ca helps FLORA.org. All my own virtual-server and
collocation hosting services are billed through OpenConcept.

  c) You help promote the values that FLORA.org promotes, with the most
visible obviously being promotion/education around Free/Libre and Open
Source Software <http://www.flora.ca/floss.shtml>

  d) You financially support related services which need such support. As
an example, Rabble.ca is going through some hard times right now and is
needing some donations.
