If one goes to the FLORA.org FAQ at http://www.flora.org/flora/faq.shtml
they will note a question:
"Who may put information up on FLORA.org, or make use of the
communications tools made available by FLORA.org?"
This FAQ question sets out a very rough set of criteria for hosting on
FLORA.org, with similar criteria being part of what is used for
sponsorship by my FLORA.ca business.
Short-form:
- services to a community
- available to the public (IE: not members only)
- technological accessibility (open file formats/etc)
- advertise/link to sponsor
- For FLORA.org sites, FLORA.org must be in advertised URL.
A new issue has come up in recent years that needs to be added. While
some might think it obvious, the community-nature of FLORA.org does not
allow for the acceptance of Violence and Vandalism used in some political
circles. While FLORA.org is interested in hosting organizations opposed
to violence, some activist groups have taken the opposite approach and
specifically endorse violence and vandalism.
To learn more, please go to http://no-dot.ca/ . This URL is an
easy-to-remember link that goes to http://www.greenfyre.org/SIGN/ .
"Coalition for Solidarity in Gandhian Nonviolence" (SIGN)
I have written two articles of interest on this topic:
"Why I will not participate in events around Take the Capital"
http://weblog.flora.org/article.php3?story_id=195
"Non-cooperation with violence - but with people?"
http://www.greenfyre.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24
In this later article I try to articulate why I feel I had no choice but
to confront the acceptance of violence and vandalism in politics.
If you have opinions on this subject, please consider joining the
GreenFyre BBS and posting them.
How this affects FLORA.org groups
---------------------------------
For groups on FLORA.org, or groups sponsored by FLORA.ca, the
clarification will be this: Groups that promote and/or accept violence
and vandalism in politics will not be eligible for sponsored services.
If you are using the services of FLORA.org, you will be asked to get
your own domain name and pay regular commercial rates or move elsewhere.
If you are sponsored by FLORA.ca, you will be asked to pay regular
commercial rates for your services or move elsewhere.
