WHAT IS IT?
-----------

This is the first of a series of Linux classes to be presented by the
Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group (OCLUG) and ExitCertified.
ExitCertified has generously made their classroom space available to
OCLUG, to be used for training sessions and other events.

WHAT IS THIS MONTH'S TOPIC?
---------------------------

This month's training session is a course geared towards brand new Linux
users, and other Linux users who would like to learn more about the
Linux command shell. People who have never used their Linux "bash"
prompts, or have very little experience with it will benefit the most.
Here are some of the topics covered:
  - Navigating the Linux filesystem
  - Basic Linux commands
  - Simple file and directory maintenance
  - Shortcuts to make your life easier

The course is an interactive lecture/lab session that should run for
approximately 90 minutes, followed by a 30 minute help session to
address individual questions and concerns. The class is equipped with
Sun Ultra 10 workstations running Solaris (not Linux), however, the
familiar Bash shell and utilities will be used to teach the class.

Please note: This course is *NOT* a general Q&A class. We will not
cover installation, configuration, troubleshooting, etc. The focus is
on using the bash shell. If you are having difficulties getting Linux
to run, it would be a better idea to post on the OCLUG mailing list or
come to an upcoming Linux installfest.

A selection of class notes will be provided to those who attend, and the
notes will also be available to the general public through the OCLUG web
page.

REGISTRATION
------------

Registration for this class is on a first-come first-served basis. If
you are interested in attending, please email: vic(at)gedris.org
with the following template:

Please make sure you attend if you sign up. If you must cancel, email
me so I can make the spot available to someone else.

FUTURE TECHNOLOGY COURSES
-------------------------

OCLUG and ExitCertified plan to continue this series of technology
courses. We plan on holding one session per month, with one or two
topics being presented at the same time (beginner and advanced level).

for one, please contact vic(at)gedris.org to arrange something. Some
potential future topics include:
  - The Linux command shell, part II
  - Beginner shell scripting, advanced shell scripting
  - System administration
  - PGP/GPG, and key signing
  - Setting up and using FreeS/WAN, or other VPN software (e.g. PPTP)
  - Setting up a cluster (beowulf, numa, etc)
  - Firewalls (Basic, and advanced)
  - make
  - cvs
  - autoconf
