I am actually using RedHat precompiled binaries these days for most
things. I have a few exceptions, but to keep administration time low I
keep the exceptions to a minimum. Slowly over time RedHat has upgraded
their configurations to match pretty much everything I was doing custom in
the past.

A new version of PHP was just installed today:

mysqlclient libraries are the same on both machines, and is the version
shipped with RedHat 7.3

mysqlclient9-3.23.22-6
mysql-3.23.49-3
