What I'm working on...

From: russell_-at-_flora.ottawa.on.ca (Russell McOrmond)

I have been working on an upgrade from the current web-based newsreader.
There are two parts.

   a) PERL importers from News/Email messages to a database
Those with a MySQL password should ask for access. I've so far
added read-only access to the 'openconcept' account that Mike Gifford
uses.

   b) A PHP based reader for these messages.
So far I only have demo's, but the idea is to have a small library
of routines people will be able to call from their own pages to display
messages. The hope is that each group will have their discussion-group as
part of their own pages, rather than off the main directory (The old names
would redirect to the new org-specific ones). The 'look and feel' would
also be based on a template that the group does, rather than just having a
FLORA look to it.

For an idea of how far I have gotten, see:

The speed difference from the above and the existing system is quite
dramatic. This is going to represent a huge resource savings, and a
great improvement for people's ability to change the look-and-feel.
