Gary Morton wrote: "Against this backdrop of totally unethical war, talks on a new government start Tuesday in Bonn. The Northern Alliance has stated that it is running the government and says it will be in Bonn under duress. Former Afghan president Berhanuddin Rabbani has dismissed the conference as merely symbolic. Alliance Warlords hold power in all of their former enclaves and a grand assembly of tribal leaders may eventually appoint a ruler. "The stated Bonn goal is to recognize ethnic, tribal and religious differences. 30 delegates from four major Afghan factions sit down with United Nations mediators to select 20 representatives of a broad-based, multiethnic transitional government." Compare this situation to the one in Congo-Kinshasa ongoing for years, civil war where at least 7 factions are armed by the US and where now supposed inter-congolese dialogues are going on or have broken down again for the same reasons that this will not work in Afghanistan - foreigners controlling the situation. The UN condemns some of the factions when in fact ALL factions are guilty of the same rape and plunder to get at the huge resources that are being taken out of the Congo while millions of people are starving in that war ravaged nation. The UN acknowledges that foreigners are buying the goods, whether it is diamonds, gold or coltan yet no country will admit its role, Canada included. The government of Canada and Canadian business all deny that they are active in Congo. This is a damn lie.
