== The ROOTS OF RESISTANCE Caravan == Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and elsewhere... -- from November 22nd to December 3rd -- With ROOTS OF RESISTANCE Speakers: Juan Nivardo Rodriguez (Juventudes Libertarias - Bolivia) Jaggi Singh (Montreal) an organizer with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP - Toronto) and a local organizer or activist from your community. In the spirit of building a political culture of resistance firmly rooted in the history of anti-imperialist struggles, the ROOTS OF RESISTANCE speaking tour brings voices from grassroots struggles in the north and south together to speak on rebellion, solidarity, and political projects for social transformation - "for the long haul". The caravan takes on a more critical role in the present political climate in which the US-led "War on Terrorism" gives free-reign to world-wide repression and demands that we as community organizers and activists meet the challenges head on -- from attacks on civil liberties to "Fortress North America". The caravan brings organizers to your area to strengthen links between communities in resistance and to reinforce political alliances between popular struggles and anti-authoritarian organizing. ROOTS OF RESISTANCE also serves to publicly assert a radical stance in the context of the prevailing anti-war, anti-globalization sentiments articulated by both mainstream and supposedly "progressive" sectors. ROOTS of RESISTANCE Speakers: 1) Juan Nivardo Rodriguez from Juventudes Libertarias (JL), Bolivia -- on the Backbone of Resistance, looking at the Indigenous self-determination movement and anarchist support work. The Indigenous movement and its broad sectoral alliance effectively paralysed the country several times with nation-wide blockades and strikes throughout 2000-2001. The JL collective submits frequent reports on A-infos. 2) Jaggi Singh, anarchist writer, activist and organiser-- on international solidarity and the critical role of political convergences based on anti-racist, anti-capitalist positions. 3) An organizer with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) -- on the province-wide Economic Disruption they helped to initiate; anti-poverty organizing; immigration and welfare direct action casework; and building links and alliances with native communities and organized labour. 4) Local community activist from hosting community -- on local struggles and challenges. The ROOTS OF RESISTANCE caravan will begin in Montreal on November 22, 2001. The caravan will then travel to other cities and communities in Quebec and Ontario that express interest in hosting the ROOTS OF RESISTANCE speakers, until December 3. Host communities will be asked to cover the cost of transportation (most likely by car) of the ROOTS OF RESISTANCE speakers, and to provide a place for them to sleep while in town. Please contact us at 514-848-7585 or write to crassca@yahoo.ca for more information or to arrange to host the caravan.
