Community gardens can be found throughout
Ottawa. Gardens are located on lands owned by the City of Ottawa, church
groups, community centres, non-profit housing corporations, and the University
of Ottawa. There are 14 community gardens in Ottawa, with some 400 gardeners.
Gardens range from 5 to 150 garden plots, and are filled with fruits, vegetables,
flowers, and herbs.
Most of these gardens are organic, meaning that no harmful pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides are used on the garden. Through workshops and information-sharing, gardeners learn about crop rotation, companion planting, and organic pest control solutions to keep their plants and the soil healthy.
